We came, we saw, and WE HAD FUN! Our multi-awarded chapter, JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel had a total of seventeen (17) registered delegates to the 59th JCI Philippines National Convention right here in our own backyard of Cebu City! Again, despite our youth in our chartership at 2years of existence, we managed to bag three awards during the annual gathering of JCI Members in the entire Philippines. It also saw our 2008 President in Jolex Yu Lim getting inducted with the rest of his 2008 Presidential classmates by no less than 2008 JCI Philippines National President Raphael Angelo RIP Lesaca!

This video was played during JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel's 2nd Induction and Turnover Ceremonies last February 23, 2007 at the Budyong Hall of Waterfront Airport Casino and Hotel in Mactan. It tells the story of my growth within the JCI Ranks from a Junior Jaycee in the University of San Carlos to the rank of President in JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel.

H.A.R.N.E.S.S. to BE BETTER...The Theme that our 2007 Administration chose to live by during our year of service to our members in JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel, JCI Philippines and Junior Chamber International.

With my term as President of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel coming to a close, I pondered on the joys and pains of leading an incredible, a dynamic and exceptionally over-achieving chapter during the past year. I thought of what legacy I could leave behind as I turn over the mantle of leadership to my successor. The legacy of the 2007 Administration.

The 27th Visayas Area Conference definitely answered that question. Facing a formidable assembly of the best in the Visayas in the JCI movement, our chapter meekly and nonchalantly went through the activities of the annual Area gathering. Then came the awards night. History was made and it cemented our reputation as the best in the Visayas Area for the year 2007...

* Best Business Development Program - Worktrepreneur, Creating Strength in Numbers
* Best Membership Development Program - The DISCOVERY Series and Coffee Conversations
* Best Individual Development Program - The Next Step, Furthering Ourselves to BE BETTER
* Best Sports Development Program - DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES Bowling Fellowship
* Most Outstanding JCI Family - The JCI Bug Bites the Parcon Family
* Most Outstanding Project Chairman - Leading by Example, JCI Mem. Marlon Ariel Polinar, my Secretary General and 2008 VP for Programs
* Most Outstanding Trainer - JCI Mem. Lorelei Dasmariñas, our special adviser and concurrent Visayas Area Training Director
* Most Outstanding Current JCI Member - The JCI Way, JCI Mem. Jolex Y. Lim, my VP for Programs in 2007 and my successor as the 2008 President-elect
* Best Chapter President - ELEVATION, JCI Mem. Angelo Daniel R. Parcon
* Best Chapter of the Year - HARNESS to BE BETTER, JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel
* 3rd in the JCI Philippines Efficiency Awards System in the entire Visayas and 7th in the entire Philippines.

The site for this year's VISARCON was at Catbalogan Samar hosted by the JCI Catbalogan Balud, Inc. of my friend, batchmate and co-Bisaya Bloc member, JCI Mem. Troy Ian Baclay.

Up next is the National Convention. For a chapter which is only two (2) years old, such a feat like the VISARCON awards is rare and almost unimaginable.

This was where dreams were made and made the whole experience as President all the more worthwhile...

In partnership with the DOLE VII Office via our Immediate Past Vice President and current Regional Training Director JCI Mem. Matet Calibugan and with the Council of Barangay Kamputhaw, our chapter launched the Worktrepreneurship program for the members of the Gender and Development group of Barangay Kamputhaw. The program aims to empower the residents with the needed opportunities and avenues for them to work on their success as future entrepreneurs. The seminar was conducted by no less than the Area Training Director for Visayas JCI Mem. Maimai Dasmariñas and the latest addition to the team of trainers for our chapter, PRIME GRADUATE and VP Programs JCI Mem. Jolex Lim. Well-attended and graced by the presence of the Vice Mayor of Cebu City himself, the Hon. Michael Rama and one of the newest faces in the Cebu City Council, Hon. Leah Ouano-Japson, the Committee Chairman for Family and Women in Cebu City and the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Labor, Employment Livelihood & Manpower Development & Placement. The snacks for this very successful afternoon activity was provided by McDonald's, love ko 'to.

JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel commemorated the celebration of the National Training Month of JCI Philippines by conducting the seminars How to become a Worktrepreneur by JCI Mem. Ma. Theresa B. Calibugan, PG and an Overview of the ISO Accreditation Process by JCI Mem. Rosalie B. Pulido-Alvarado. The “National Training Month hopes to arrest the dwindling number of active trainers in recent years by rekindling their interest in pursuing their JCI career in training”. It encourages all local chapters to “take JCI seminars to a higher level” emphasizing that ‘local chapters should go beyond the confines of JCI “canned” seminars and seek ways in order to make courses more relevant and responsive”. The two NTC's main objectives for National Training Month this year are to promote the creation of Chapter Training Team (CTT) in each chapter and to encourage chapters to conduct seminars through the four JCI channels namely – Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Management and Trainer.

One of the most memorable events in the life of our very young chapter! We just turned one year old and we're raring to surpass what we were able to achieve during our first year! This also marked the day that I assumed the leadership of the youngest JCI chapter in the Philippines! As always, the fellowship after the ceremonies served as a fitting nightcap to the activities!

In a continued effort to build up membership to achieve Category 2 status in JCI Philippines, our chapter recently conducted this seminar and had one of our most valued members conduct it. A past President of JCI Cebu Hara, the current Visayas Area Training Director, a Certified National Trainer for the JCI University of Junior Chamber International and a candidate for National Graduate status, JCI Mem. Lorelei 'Maimai' Dasmariñas conducted an efficient, concise and yet very very interesting lecture about the benefits and the opportunities that JCI presents to thirteen new prospective members of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel.

Bowling has always been a passion of our chapter in JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel. When the JCI Week Celebration culminated with a Bowling Tournament, we didn't hesitate to join! Lo and behold, our baby chapter came out gunning and we finished 1st Runner-up overall!! Missing the Championship Trophy by a single pinfall!! Nevertheless, we still had fun and are eager to join the next Bowling Tourney!

The New Year signaled my official takeover as President of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel. Immediately upon arrival from Manila, we held our very first General Membership Meeting for the year 2007 where I also received the reins of leadership from Charter President Cerwin Eviota. Graced by guests from other chapters and the 2007 National Vice President for Central Visayas Ray Salgado, I'd say we started our administration on the right foot. :D

To coincide with what was to be the original schedule of the ASEAN Summit, the Cebu City Government through the office of Councilor Edu Rama, made a project tie-up with the Central Visayas JCI Chapters through National Vice President Ray Salgado. The project which was soon christened as the ASEAN Pasigarbo sa Sugbo was aimed to be a Trade Fair Exhibit featuring the best of the island of Cebu. Our chapter, JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel was tasked to manage the marketing arm of the Trade fair and the Opening Ceremonies itself. We had a successful opening for the event wherein it was well attended. It also isn't everyday that you get to be interviewed by a TV crew! Hehehehe!

Last November 20, 2006, the JCI Local Organizations in Cebu were graced by the presence not by one, not by two, not even by three, but five stalwarts of the JCI movement in the International Arena. Led by former JCIP NP and 2002 World EVP JCI Sen. Marcel Fernan, ICT Director Pedro Zaraza, Area C Director Edmond Sakai and Area D Director Zsolt Feher talked to us about the importance of Non-Profit Management and new developments from the JCI Website. I was joined by my cousin, our 2007 International Affairs Commissioner Berchman Parcon as representatives of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel.
